Underbody Restoration

These Nissan’s are not getting any younger and high quality work is getting harder and harder to find by the day… Luckily, this is common day to day work for us here at Slide! If your car has any rust whether it’s a crusty arch or a full restoration that you require, we have the skill and facilities to carry out any of this work to the highest standard possible.

We have been restoring cars for years now which has given us a leading understanding of which products to use for the best results, when we restore these cars we do it with the goal in mind that the car will be like brand new for years to come, this also means we have a keen attention to detail when it comes to fabricating new panels for our repairs, by using products such as Gravitex underseal we can offer the highest quality finished product! We also use treatments such as Hydrate 80 to make sure all of that rust is gone from the panel if it isn’t being replaced!

Here is a quick run through of what goes down when it comes to this type of work.

Vehicle Assessment
Every car which comes in for underseal must be assessed first by one of our technicians/ fabricators, this also gives our customer a chance to see what we are actually working with so they can have a better understanding of how things will be planned out.

Strip Down
To get things rolling once the car is with us at the workshop, removing what is necessary for the discussed work to be carried out. This can be anything from removing an exhaust or completely stripping the car back to a bare shell!

Clean up
Once the car is stripped and ready to go, its time for the most enjoyable part… the clean up, where all underseal, dirt and just about anything else between the bare metal is removed from the car, this is one of the most time consuming parts of the job and also where the Hydrate 80 comes into play, this is the best product on the market in our opinion for its job which is removing any surface corrosion. There are many other rust converters out there but we have used the Hydrate 80 for many years with great results.

Welding
As we mentioned earlier, it is extremely hard to find a garage these days that is willing to carry out high level bespoke vehicle welding. At this stage any rust repairs will be carried out to our OEM Factory standards. With our team who have years of experience and countless saved Silvias behind them, we also do also cheaper MOT welding jobs too if that is more suited to your situation! OEM+ is a phrase that gets thrown around a lot these days, OEM plus is basically adding those little touches that make it better than factory, we’ll do all those in with the job.

Prime
When all of that rust is finally gone and we’re working with solid metal agai, it’s time to make it pretty again! Priming the full underside of the car! We use a variety of products for this stage such as etch primer, red oxide or epoxy primer, it all just depends on the job at hand!

Seam Sealing
Once the car is looking fresh in it’s primed underbody it is time for seam sealing which ensures no water will be getting trapped between the metal panels again causing the issues to come back… We know many tricks like this which help preserve the cars lift just that much longer! These experiences come from years within this space.

Underseal
At this stage, it is time to seal in all of our hard work using 9 times out of 10 Upol Gravitex underseal. This is our personal favourite underbody seal as it also allows for us to add a layer of paint over it so the underside of the car can be whatever colour you desire and add that extra layer of protection.

Rebuild
Finally, the last step, to rebuild the car. This stage is the most self explanatory… but it is also the best as we finally get to see the finished product in all its glory! Usually the rebuild consists of an upgrade in parts too if the customer is wanting to go that extra mile with their fresh build!

We don’t only do Nissan Skylines and 200sx / Silvia rust repair, we offer the same services no matter the make/ model of the car!

Honda Civics & S2000 are common through our doors, we have a 300zx going on the ramp next, Toyota Supras in all shapes and sizes.

We even offer MOT welding to get your car through its next MOT to keep it on the road just that little bit longer. We will try our best to work to peoples budgets and get the best fix.

We have followed this process on many types of vehicles from drift cars to American RV trucks… you name it, we have probably done it.
